Challenge
Sunrise UPC GmbH is a Swiss telecommunications company with over five million private and business customers, to whom it offers services in the areas of mobile communications, fixed networks, internet and TV.
As a company in a highly regulated environment, it is essential for Sunrise UPC to identify political trends at an early stage and to stay on top of relevant political developments. Against this backdrop, it is essential for the Government Affairs team to be familiar with a variety of political transactions and consultations and to be aware of current changes.
Anna Riedweg, Public Policy Manager, remembers the earlier system of political monitoring: “We had a chronologically structured Word document that was solid 400 pages long.” It was searchable by keyword, she says, but it lacked an overview and proper structuring. For a report, she had to assemble a new document by hand each time. All in all, a lot of copy & paste and very time-consuming.
Solution
How can such a system be made more efficient and transparent? The team discussed ideas and explored various possibilities. Inspired by these considerations, the team came across a software that could solve the problem at hand: With politik.ch, Sunrise UPC’s government affairs team found what the company needed. A tool that simplifies the work for those involved.

“Of course, an initial effort is always necessary when changing systems,” says Anna Riedweg. And she freely admits that, especially in the beginning, she pushed the tool to its limits. But when something doesn’t work, politik.ch always reacts very quickly and finds solutions. “The customer service is really uncomplicated, and at the same time highly professional – the politanalytics.com crew is simply refreshingly likeable!”

Result
When asked what has changed for the Government Affairs team, Anna Riedweg answers simply: “It wouldn’t work without politik.ch anymore.” While they used to painstakingly handle Word documents by hand, they now create reports with a single click.
It is also an enormous relief to be notified of important changes at the right moment, rather than having to actively search for the information yourself. As an example, she names the commission meetings of the federal councils. “Commission programs are still published as PDFs. Every now and then they are updated, but without politik.ch we never knew exactly when. Finding out when an affair is on the agenda was very time-consuming back then”. Today, they would have their affair automatically in the politik.ch calendar and would be notified of changes in the meeting program. “The calendar is really invaluable,” says Riedweg.

And the reporting? “It’s really simple: I used to need hours to compile an issue dossier as a PDF – today I can do it in a few minutes,” says Riedweg and concludes: “Political monitoring is often underestimated. It is crucial that those responsible know what’s happening where and when, and who is involved. This information is a cornerstone of political work – and politanalytics.com provides us with the appropriate foundation for this!”
